Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Crossover Event, How to Unlock and Use the Buster Sword

  • The Buster Sword is a new weapon added to Apex Legends for the duration of the Final Fantasy 7 Event which ends on January 30th.
  • The Buster Sword can be found in various locations of Apex Legends maps marked by a red beam. It can also be found in Care Packages.
  • The Buster Sword takes up a weapon slot and allows you to perform powerful melee attacks and execute Limit Breaks on opponents.

The Final Fantasy 7 x Apex Legends crossover event is the first of its kind for the battle-royale meets hero shooter. Several mechanics were added to the non-ranked trio's version of the game which was inspired by Final Fantasy 7. Every gun in Apex Legends has a Materia hop-up that adds a new mechanic to it. Plus, Cloud Strife’s signature weapon, the Buster Sword, can now be picked up and wielded as a new melee weapon.

Where to find the Buster Sword

Where can players find the Buster Sword in Apex Legends? It’s highlighted on the map with a red beam and it also can be found in Neutral Care Packages.

You can also take the Buster Sword off opponents you defeat. Unlike other weapons and gear that appear in the death box. The Buster Sword falls into the ground allowing you to instantly grab it once the previous wielder is defeated.

There are multiple Buster Swords in the game and you can have your entire squad wielding them if you find enough.

Buster Sword Controls

Picking up the Buster Sword takes one weapon slot but gives the player a lot of power. A single swing from the Buster Sword deals 60 damage. It also has a light attack that is quicker and deals 25 damage. But it can do a lot more than that in the right hands. Here are the mouse and keyboard controls for the Final Fantasy 7 Buster Sword in Apex Legends.

  • Heavy Attack (Left mouse button)
  • Light Attack (Melee attack button, while Launch is on cooldown)
  • Launch (Melee attack button)
    • Left mouse button after launch to slam.
  • Block (Right mouse button)
  • Dash (While blocking, left mouse button)
  • Limit Break (B to Activate)
    • Speed Increased
    • Damage Reduced
    • Unlocks ATB Gauge
    • Launch off cooldown.

And if you play on a controller the default controls should be the following.

  • Heavy Attack (R2 Trigger)
  • Light Attack (R3, while Launch is on cooldown)
  • Launch (R3)
    • R2 Trigger after launch to slam.
  • Block (L2 Trigger)
  • Dash (While blocking, R2 Trigger)
  • Limit Break (Left on D Pad)
    • Speed Increased
    • Damage Reduced
    • Unlocks ATB Gauge
    • Launch off cooldown.

The Limit Break Gauge is the most powerful feature of the Buster Sword. It takes all the abilities off cooldown and also grants you increased speed and damage reduction. You can further reduce damage by blocking with the Buster Sword.

While the Limit Break Gauge does gradually increase like a Legend's ultimate ability, it charges faster whenever you do damage or take damage.

If you’re having trouble learning how to effectively wield the Buster Sword while playing Apex Legends, it is available in the firing range to practice with.
