Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth arrives in the outlands as Apex Legends introduces a one-of-a-kind battle royale mode inspired by the iconic Final Fantasy game. Players can expect 36 new cosmetics from the usual skins and stickers, to a new death box cosmetic and a special mythic level heirloom that any Legend in the game can equip. The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth x Apex Legends Crossover event starts on Tuesday, January 9th, and finishes on January 30th.

Final Fantasy VII Takeover for Battle Royale Mode

As Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth invades Apex Legends the standard battle royale mode in trios and duos will be undergoing a massive change. Players will be able to find the Buster Sword R2R5 on the ground or in care packages throughout the match.

Equipping this special melee weapon will give players access to special abilities like a light and heavy melee attack, the ability to block and reduce damage, and dash at your enemies to close the gap. Using the Buster Sword R2R5 will also fill a meter that will instantly be familiar to fans of the Final Fantasy series. The more damage you deal, block, and take, the faster your Limit Break meter will fill.

The Buster Sword isn’t the only crossover mechanic that has made its way from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to Apex Legends. Players will also be able to find Materia-inspired hop-ups on the ground that give new effects to their weapons. Only certain materia can fit into certain weapons, so be on the lookout for the right combinations. The materia and their effects include…

  • Blue Materia (HP Absorb) will heal you as you deal damage.
  • Green Materia (Lightning) causes your weapon to emit a shock nova when it is empty and you reload, damaging and slowing down nearby enemies.
  • Purple Materia (Crit Rate Up) Randomly boosts the damage of your critical hits.
  • Red Materia (Summon) will summon a Nessie companion to attack your foes.
  • Yellow Materia (Assess) damaging enemies will show their remaining health bar.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Cosmetics

This Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth x Apex Legends crossover isn’t your traditional collection event, but has perhaps the most cosmetic items an event ever has in Apex Legends clocking in at 36. These cosmetics include 6 new iconic skins for Crypto, Newcastle, Wraith, Horizon, Valkyrie and Wattson -- all themed after Final Fantasy 7 characters.

The new cosmetics for Legends and Weapons are inspired by the main characters from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and some of the more popular Summons from the game. The Legend skins are...

  • Crypto as Cloud Strife
  • Newcastle as Barret Wallace
  • Wraith as Tifa Lockheart
  • Horizon as Aerith Gainsborough
  • Valkyrie as Yuffie Kisaragi
  • Wattson as a Moogle

The weapon skins include...

  • The Seventh Heaven Wingman
  • An Aerith-inspired Charge Rifle
  • The Bahamut Nemesis
  • The Buster Sword R-301
  • Yuffie's Sentinel
  • The Ifrit Flatline
  • The Leviathan Longbow
  • Barret's Spitfire
  • The Shiva CAR SMG

There are also weapon charms, stickers, and even a new death box cosmetic inspired by Sephiroth's one-winged angel. But the biggest surprise comes with the introduction of the first non-exclusive mythic heirloom, the Buster Sword R5. This heirloom is a replica of Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword and will be equipable by any Legend in the game.

There will be several ways to collect the cosmetics as some will be available on the store page, others will come from special event collection packs and some will be gained from the Gil & Reward Shop.

How can players obtain the Buster Sword R5 Heirloom in Apex Legends? All 36 items (including the Buster Sword R5 Melee Cosmetic) will be randomly awarded via event packs with no duplicates of event items. After the event ends the Buster Sword will not be coming to the Mythic heirloom store tab. If players miss it during this event, it is gone forever.

Store Tab, Reward Shop & Twitch Drops

The six iconic skins based on the heroes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available in the store tab for 2,150 Apex Coins. They'll be available from the start of the vent on January 9th until February 6th.

Players can only obtain certain cosmetics by buying the event-themed loot packs which start at 100 Apex Coins and then adjust on a sliding scale based on how many cosmetic items they own, capping out at 1000 Apex Coins each. If players wish to collect all cosmetics they will have to pay an estimated price of $278 in total.

Similar to the Post Malone event, there will be a special reward shop where players can spend gil that they earn by completing daily challenges. The rewards include special event packs, other apex loot packs, a cactuar weapon charm, a holospray, battle pass levels and more.

Players of Apex Legends can also earn four new stickers through special Twitch drops by watching streamers play Apex Legends. Each sticker can be earned on a different week for watching over an hour of Apex Legends.
