Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Crossover Event Materia Guide, Every Hop-Up Explained

  • Each color has a different effect and each gun in the game can be fitted with one Materia hop-up.
  • Materia can be found in the green Cactuar-themed loot ticks spread across the map.

The Final Fantasy 7 x Apex Legends event is now in full swing and with it, the unranked battle-royale mode has had some exciting additions. While players are angry about the pricing and RNG odds of the event regarding cosmetic prizes, the game-play changes are getting positive reactions.

Here are the five colors of Materia hop-ups you can get while playing the Final Fantasy 7-inspired battle-royale mode in Apex Legends, including where to find them, what they do, and what guns they attach to.

Red Materia - Summoning

The Final Fantasy franchise has historically dealt with large creatures of legend and lore. Often referred to as summons, guardian forces, or eidolons, a lot of them repeat over time (Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, etc.). The Red Materia in Apex Legends might be one of the best ones as it summons a cute little plushie Nessie to aid you in combat.

The SOLDIER Nessie has its own Buster Sword and will follow you everywhere. Even if you get too far ahead of it, it’ll pop up out of the ground beside you. Whenever you start shooting at an opponent, the Nessie will run over to attack them as well keeping up the pressure. They can be defeated as well since they do have health bars. But who would do such a thing?!

If you keep firing, eventually another one will be summoned. You can even get close to and inspect the Nessie to pet them and get a free heal as they do a heart emote at you.

The Red Summoning Materia hop-up fits on the following guns in Apex Legends: Kraber, Havoc, Mozambique, P2020 and the RE-45.

Yellow Materia - Asses

The Yellow Materia in Final Fantasy 7 is known as Command Materia and when equipped will give characters a new command or action. In Apex Legends that command is Assess and when you damage a player while equipped with it it will show you their current health.

This Materia is a great addition to your team because it lets you know if someone is actually ‘One Shot’ or not.

The Yellow Materia in the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 crossover event game mode lets players assess the remaining health of their opponents.

Purple Materia - Crit Rate Damage Up

In Final Fantasy 7, the Purple Materia was enhancement materia and allowed you to buff up the various stats of your characters. In Apex Legends it buffs the damage of your critical hits or your head shots.

It’s a perfect way to put extra pressure when you’re engaging long-range or trying to create an opening for a quick push. Longbows with Skullpiercers were already scary, now they put even more damage out.

Blue Materia - HP Absorb

The Blue Materia in Final Fantasy 7 was some of the most unique to play around with. It was called Added Effect materia and it did exactly that, adding the effect of the materia to whatever it was attached to. In Apex Legends, that means every time you deal damage, you heal yourself.

It’s not one for one in terms of damage done to healing received, but every little bit of healing you can get will make a big difference in a game like Apex Legends.

The Blue Materia in the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 crossover event game mode lets players regain health as they damage opponents.

The Blue Materia HP Absorb hop-up fits on the following guns in Apex Legends: Mastiff, Devotion, Hemlock, Nemesis, 30-30 Repeater, and the Wingman.

Green Materia - Lightning

The Green Materia was a classic magical materia and did damage based on the element it was. In Apex Legends the Green is Lightning and whenever you have an empty magazine and you reload your gun it will spark a small area of effect around you.

This area of effect shock nova will damage any enemies near you and cause them to be slowed. This allows you to quickly finish them off before they can finish you off.

The Green Materia in the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 crossover event game mode lets players emit a shock nova when they reload.

Where to Find Materia?

You can find materia by breaking open the Cactuar-themed loot ticks that are spread throughout the map. Whenever a match starts you can press a button that appears on the screen to mark and show all the loot ticks in the match, similar to how you can mark Crafting Replicators.

When these loot ticks are opened they will have one materia of each color inside of them. You can also find the materia hop-ups just like you normally would spread throughout the map on the floor loot table.
