After a solid 2-0 super week to position themselves at 3-2, 100 Thieves went into their series against the struggling NRG as the favorite.

Truthfully, it was a tough and surprising series for 100 Thieves. NRG had been struggling in the VCT Americas League while it looked like 100 Thieves finally found their stride as a team. Instead, NRG vs 100T VALORANT saw 100 Thieves lose 0-2 to their opponents and held to just 10 round wins during that entire two-game series.

One of the biggest surprises of last week's performance was Sean “bang” Bezerra, who has been the star of 100 Thieves throughout the VCT Americas League. From consistently strong performances as the team’s primary smokes player to 1v3 heroics against Leviatan, expectations are always grand for bang lately.

However, the series against NRG was a different look as he posted a 0.67 Rating and 17 kills throughout the NRG match.

“There’s not really too much you can say about it,” bang said. “We just didn’t show up at all today.”

There are a number of factors that can affect a lackluster performance in competitive VALORANT. One of the most common reasons for success has been making sure you can perform “on the day”. While it is very difficult to consistently do that every day, it is something bang has come to terms with if you want to find success in the VCT Americas League.

“If you haven’t been performing in scrims the last couple of days and you go into a match, it’s something that will naturally be on your mind,” bang shared. “You’re gonna have days like today where you don’t play like normally, but that’s just how it is.”

Regardless, the entire VCT Americas League has been bang’s season for 100 Thieves. One of the biggest reasons for his usually strong performances has been his mindset toward preparation against every team.

“You just gotta focus on the team you are playing and making sure you understand exactly what you want to play against them and how you will play against them,” bang said. “That’s the best thing you can do in this format.”

100 Thieves will look to bounce back from their series against NRG next week against the undefeated LOUD in week 6 of the VCT Americas League. From there, 100 Thieves will round out their VCT Americas season by taking on the remaining Brazilian teams, Furia and MIBR, to close the regular season.
