Overwatch 2 Season 8 Incoming — Release Date, New Hero, New Game Mode
Overwatch 2 is always controversial, thanks to the state of Blizzard and the Overwatch League. But there’s no denying that fans of the game can’t resist new content and Season 8 has a lot on the way. Here’s what to expect.
Overwatch 2 Season 8 Release Date
Overwatch 2 Season 8 is coming on December 5, 2023.
The battle pass and other content will also be dropping simultaneously. But this also means the Season 7 battle pass will end so grind it while you can.
Overwatch 2 Season 8 New Hero
BlizzCon confirmed that there will be a new hero coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 8. Mauga is a new tank hero, a long-awaited hero that’s been teased throughout the game’s lore and maps since the original Overwatch.
Mauga is a powerful brawler who soaks up damage while charging enemies, reduces damage done to his allies, and challenges opponents to cage fights.
Overwatch 2 Season 8 New Game Mode
A new game mode has also been confirmed for Overwatch 2, Clash. This is a capture-the-point-style game mode that has both teams start the match with an already claimed capture point. They must then fight over the third capture point. Whoever captures Point C will then unlock the next point. The team that claims all the capture points first or has the most points by the end of a match time wins!
Overwatch 2 Season 8 New Map
The new game mode is also getting a new map, Hanaoka. This map takes place in the same region as Hanamura but is designed for Clash mode. You’ll get to see a lot of recognizable landmarks along with lore easter eggs that continue to tell some popular stories for heroes like Genji and Hanzo.
Hero Mastery Update
After Hero Mastery was introduced, Overwatch 2 players learned that not every hero would be included when it launched. Now, Season 8 is bringing new heroes to the mode so you can master a new batch of abilities. The new heroes will be:
- Mei
- D.va
- Echo
- Lucio
- Genji
