The next tank hero is going to be Mauga. Mauga will be the 39th playable hero on the roster, coming with Season 8.

When Is Mauga Coming to Overwatch 2?

Mauga free trial weekend

Mauga will be a tank hero coming with Season 8, which launches December 5, 2023.

But you can play Mauga before this. The leak ahead of BlizzCon 2023 includes the exciting announcement that Mauga will be part of Blizzard’s free trial weekend. You will be able to play as Mauga from Friday, November 3 through November 5.

Who Is Mauga?

Mauga was one of the handful of characters that were being speculated ahead of BlizzCon’s announcement. He was the most likely, however, since developers have admitted in the past that Mauga was originally planned for Overwatch 1. It became even more promising when the Samoa map came out this season.

Mauga is a member of Talon who was close with Baptise until he left. He has always been depicted as a pretty big guy, so it makes sense he’d be a tank. Here’s what we know about his abilities according to the leak.

Mauga is being described as a “powerful brawling tank hero who will tear through the competition with his incendiary and volatile chainguns.” Your goal as Mauga is to “bash through” the front lines and fight enemies up close.

One of his abilities is called Overrun. This is a “charging ability” that cannot be stopped by any crowd control abilities. It causes a powerful knockback effect when he runs into enemies. Once up close, he can use Cardiac Overdrive to create an aura that reduces incoming damage to him and allies, allowing for a lot of aggression.

Then, Mauga’s ultimate ability, Cage Fight, “traps nearby opponents in a cylindrical fighting ring.” A barrier will block those enemies’ incoming damage and they also can’t be healed from outside the ring.
