Fortnite Esports Returns In 2023 - Where and When to Watch
After a quiet run through the pandemic, the Fortnite esports scene is storming out of the gate in 2023. Today, Epic Games announced the return of the Fortnite Championship Series, better known as the FNCS. 2023 will see the adoption of a new series of majors, capped off by a global championship event later in the year. Many questions still abound, so let's dive in.
FNCS Majors
FNCS will return in 2023 with a duos format. There will be weekly online Fortnite Major 1 competitions, with each duo that competes being awarded series points based on their performance and results. The top 40 duos across the three weeks of competition will advance to the FNCS Major 1 Grand Finals. That tournament will be held in March and will feature a two million dollar prize pool, with the best teams in each region advancing to the FNCS Global Championship 2023.
Three of these majors will be held throughout the year, totally six million dollars in prize money. The first of these events is starting soon, with Major 1 kicking off on Thursday, February 2nd.
FNCS Global Championship Heads To Europe
The best players in the world will be heading across the pond to Copenhagen, Denmark, for a live in-person competition to decide the best in the world. Fortnite is widely known for their use of online competitions in the spirit of allowing everyone a chance to play, so seeing a LAN event will certainly be interesting. With the 75 best duos in the world on hand to compete, a four million dollar prize pool on the line, and a roaring crowd in Denmark, it should represent a major step forward for the Fortnite Esports scene after a couple of years of relative quiet.
