Evil Geniuses pick up their first map of VCT 2023: Americas

If you had only watched the first half of Pearl, you would not have expected this result. Evil Geniuses were completely outclassed by KRÜ Esports in the first half of Pearl. The KRÜ Esports duo of Angelo "keznit" Mori and Nicolas "klaus" Ferrari each pieced together 1.60 Ratings on the attack side of Pearl and amassed 28 kills. This strong performance helped KRÜ Esports go into the second half with a 9-3 lead over Evil Geniuses, who appeared on their way to yet another 0-2 series in the VCT 2023: Americas League.

That soon shifted once Evil Geniuses were granted the attack side of Pearl. Evil Geniuses in-game leader Kelden “Boostio” Pupello was the star of the second half with a 1.88 Rating. He, alongside Alexander “jawgemo” Mor collected 16 kills each as they lead the team to a 10-2 second half to net Evil Geniuses’ their first map of the VCT 2023: Americas League.

KRÜ Esports battle back from 8-4 first half on Ascent

The second map saw Evil Geniuses soar to an 8-4 first half as KRU Esports had trouble getting past Evil Geniuses duelist Max “Demon1” Mazanov’s Jett. That dominance did not continue into the second half, however, as KRÜ Esports were able to battle back themselves in the second half. After Evil Geniuses grabbed the first pistol round of the second half, KRÜ Esports went on an eight-round win streak to take map two to series point at 12-9.

Evil Geniuses battled back for two more rounds to bring map two to 12-11, but the comeback was not in their script as KRÜ Esports closed out map two 13-11.

Evil Geniuses enter four-way tie with other NA teams

Evil Geniuses began their campaign with a solid 7-5 first half over KRÜ Esports. While KRÜ Esports was able to tie the score at 7-7 following a pair of wins, it wasn’t enough to stop Evil Geniuses from running away with the series following a six-round win streak.

With this win, Evil Geniuses are no longer winless in the VCT 2023: Americas League regular season. After showing glimpses of excellence in previous matches, the NA team can finally hold their heads high as they now enter a tie for sixth place in the VCT 2023: Americas League standings at 1-2.

With newfound confidence, the underdogs will look to build on their win today as they enter the VCT 2023: Americas League super week against Furia and LOUD.

As for KRÜ Esports, they now remain the only team in the VCT 2023: Americas League without a series win. They will look to grab their first win of the VCT 2023: Americas League regular season next week against 100 Thieves and NRG.
