With the Lunar New Year fast approaching Niantic and Pokémon GO have announced an event to celebrate. The Lunar New Year Event for Pokémon GO includes the addition of the Dragon-type Pokémon Drampa, rewards for players all over the world, including new rotations for raid Pokémon, and some Field Research Tasks. Here are all the details for Pokémon GO’s Lunar New Year Event.

Pokémon GO Lunar New Year Event

The Lunar Year Event for Pokémon GO starts on Monday, February 5th at 10 AM local time and ends on Sunday, February 11th at 8 PM local time.

Drampa will appear in the wild and have a chance to spawn as its shiny variant. Other increased wild encounters include Magikarp, Dratini, Shuckle, Fennekin, Skrelp, Noibat, and Jangmo-o.

For the duration of the Lunar New Year Event, the following Pokémon will appear more often in raids.

  • One-Star Raids: Dratini, Deino and Goomy.
  • Three-Star Raids: Druddigon, Turtonator, Drampa
  • All raid Pokémon have a chance to be shiny variants.

Players will also have a chance to encounter Pokémon while doing Event-themed Field Research tasks. The Pokémon encounters rewarded for completing these tasks are Dratini, Trapinch, Swablu, Gible, Darumaka, Druddigon, Deino, Skrelp, Tyrunt, Goomy, Turtonator and the newly added Drampa.

Drampa can be found in Pokémon GO through Three-Star Raids and Event-themed Field Research tasks for the Lunar New Year Event. Some players may even have a chance to encounter them in the wild.

Players can also purchase a US$2.00 (or equivalent pricing tier in your local currency) Paid Time Research. The Time Research will reward players with Stardust, XP, and two Lucky Eggs as well as Encounters with event-themed Pokémon.

Finally, a Global Challenge will take place during Pokémon GO’s Lunar New Year Event celebration. If players can throw 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws, it will unlock bonuses for all trainers to enjoy during the remainder of the event.

Rewards include the chance to evolve certain Pokémon to learn featured moves, special wild encounters, and special One and Three-Star Raids. You can track the progress of the Global Challenge here when it goes live.
