How to Catch Every Starter Pokémon in The Indigo Disk DLC

One of the unique features of the DLC is the availability of past starts, here is how to find and catch all of them

Beware, the content posted in this article may contain various spoilers for different parts of The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Never in the history of the Pokémon franchise have we seen a DLC such as The Indigo Disk. For the unaware the second half of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC introduced tons of never-before-seen features into the game and reintroduced many fan-favourite Pokémon into the roster of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. One of these features is the ability to catch all 24 starter Pokémon from previous generations in the wild however you must first meet certain requirements for these Pokémon to show up.

How to start seeing starter Pokémon in the wild

When you first enter Blueberry Academy’s unique environment called the Terarium you will not be able to encounter any of the starter Pokémon. To begin your nostalgia hunt you will first have to finish your first homework assignment and also get access to the League Club’s computer. If you have played the DLC for more than 10 minutes neither task should be difficult.

Finishing your first homework which consists of delivering an Alolan form Pokémon to your professor (if you are having trouble finding one there should be plenty of Muks and Grimers to the north of the quest pin) allows you to get access to the BBQs aka Blueberry Quests. These quests can vary and get more difficult as you complete them however they grant you valuable Blueberry Points, BP for short.

When you get access to the League Club’s computer you will be able to spend your BP to “boost a biome’s biodiversity”. Depending on which option you choose a certain starter can appear. Do note that each time you boost a biome’s biodiversity you spend 3.000 BP so finish reading this article to know which option you should choose for your desired Pokémon.

How to catch all 24 starter Pokémon

All starters in the Indigo Disc DLC

All of the starter Pokémon encountered in the wild have much lower catch rate chances when compared to other wild Pokémon. To save yourself the work (and the Pokéballs) we highly recommend you use the various strategies available in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, some of them are:

  • By using the Crouch button you can hide from wild Pokémon and get behind them, “back strikes” is the mechanic of throwing a Pokéball on the Pokémon’s back and it almost doubles your catch rates
  • On turn one make sure to use a Quick Ball, this way you will have the best odds of capturing the Pokémon as soon as possible.
  • If you do not capture the Pokémon on the first turn you may either restart the battle or lower its HP as well as apply status such as Sleep or Paralyze to increase your odds
