XDefiant to be Released Before March 31, 2024
The gaming community has been asking for a new First Person Shooter game to release for a while now, and XDefiant seemed as though it could be the game to bring the hype back. However, following beta’s and limited playtest sessions last summer, little information has been revealed from the XDefiant team about a potential release date since.
A new announcement from Ubisoft's earnings call suggests that XDefiant will release before March 31, 2024.
What is XDefiant?
XDefiant is a new free-to-play FPS game developed by Ubisoft. It features its own twist on the genre by having different Factions. Factions are different types of characters in the game that have abilities that affect your playstyle. These all take inspiration from other Ubisoft titles such as Watch Dogs and Far Cry:
- Cleaners (The Division)
- Libertad (Far Cry)
- DedSec (Watch Dogs)
- Echelon (Splinter Cell)
- Phantoms (Ghost Recon)
XDefiant
Each Faction mimics the style of play in the Ubisoft title they represent, for example the DedSec Faction focuses on hacking and tech, having an EMP ability. Every Faction has one Passive, two General and an Ultra ability. The Passive abilities are constantly there for that player throughout the course of the game, the General abilities are earnt over time and the Ultra ability is the biggest and best of them all, and only earnt a minimal number of times a game.
XDefiant also features familiar weapons such as the P90 Submachine Gun, the M4A1 Assault Rifle, and the Double Barrel Shotgun. Additionally, XDefiant also features game modes that are similar to other FPS games, putting their own twist on the classics of Domination and Hardpoint.
XDefiant Release Update
The last we heard from the XDefiant team at Ubisoft was on January 3, 2024, when they said that Netcode issues were finally resolved, and a new party system was currently being tested. However, today, February 8, 2024, it was revealed that XDefiant will be coming sometime before March 31, 2024.
In today’s Ubisoft Q3 investor’s meeting, they revealed their Title release schedule for their fourth quarter (January - March 2024). In it, they revealed a number of updates and full releases that will be coming, including For Honor, Year 8 Season 1, Skull and Bones Season 1, and most importantly, XDefiant Season 0.
This announcement confirms that we will see XDefiant release by March 31, 2024. However it doesn’t confirm when it will be released, so it could come as soon as tomorrow, or it could release on the final day of Ubisoft’s Q4.
The community is excited for the release of XDefiant following this news. However, some fans are still sceptical, given that XDefiant was initially planned for a Summer 2023 release, which was then pushed back to Winter 2023, and now appears to be Spring 2024. Regardless, XDefiant is sure to make waves in the FPS scene following its release, with many fans of other FPS titles excited to try out this new free to play Shooter.
