In One Month Palworld Outpaces Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Move over Pokémon, Palworld is officially a competitor as it passes 25 million players, outpacing Pokémon Violet & Scarlets sales in just one month.

Palworld hits 25 Million Players in One Month, Outpacing Pokémon Violet & Scarlet

  • Palworld has hit the 25 million player milestone with combined Steam sales and Game Pass numbers.
  • Palworld has been out for just over a month and has already surpassed the numbers of the most recent Pokémon mainline game.
  • Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has sold just under 25 million units as of December 2023.

Smash Hit Palworld continues to make headlines and re-define what is possible with an indie game that is still in early access, or what happens when you mix Pokémon with guns. The developers at Pocketpair announced via their Palworld Twitter account that they have officially surpassed 25 million players across Steam and Xbox. While an important milestone all on its own, it surpasses another milestone set by its inspiration.

Palworld Surpasses Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has sold just under 25 million units as of December 2023. Pokémon Violet & Scarlet originally launched in November 2022. Meanwhile, Palworld has taken the Steam Charts, Xbox Game Pass and the internet by storm and has reported they have had over 25 million players log on and play the game.

There are a few important distinctions to make here, the first being that just because 25 million players have played Palworld, doesn’t mean they’ve sold that many copies. With Palworld on Xbox Game Pass, players can play without purchasing a copy of the popular game. Imagine how much higher the numbers will jump when it's eventually released on PlayStation.

According to Pocketpair, 15 million units have sold on Steam and over 10 million players have played on Xbox Game Pass. When compared to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, there’s a much larger pool of players who have access to the game. But for a game that started its development 3 years ago with a budget of 10k and a group of developers who had never developed a game before, 25 million players is a major milestone.

The fact that Pocketpair and Palworld have managed to capture the attention of so many gamers should not be ignored by Nintendo and GameFreak. With the attention and sales Palworld has received in just one month, it will be a franchise and IP to watch out for in the coming years. They’re already planning new content and dealing with other player concerns, and with a much bigger budget now than they had one month ago.
