Do or die: Team Liquid start LCS week 7 with upset
Team Liquid has started week 7 of the LCS 2023 Spring Split with a delicious upset over FlyQuest as they continue to push for a spot in the playoffs.
Heading into this series, both teams found themselves fighting for different things to close out the LCS 2023 Spring Split. For FlyQuest, today’s game against Team Liquid was about continuing their stronghold over the LCS 2023 competition as they aimed for their 12th win of the split. With playoffs already secured on their end, FlyQuest’s primary focuses were on being able to secure more wins as they prepare for playoffs.
Meanwhile, the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs are no guarantee for Team Liquid, who found themselves at a 5-8 record before today’s series. For Team Liquid, the 2023 season has not been kind to them. Despite having a former LCS MVP and World Champion, the team finds themselves in a battle just to extend their season past the prescribed 18 regular season games.
That being said, today’s game between the two was a perfect indication that the LCS may not be as top-dominant as previously perceived. Immediately, Team Liquid dominated the early game skirmishes between both teams as Team Liquid jungler Pyosik was unstoppable on Lee Sin. While FlyQuest attempted to break up this strong early game from Team Liquid, it was no use as the rest of the team began to accumulate a gold lead. This led to midlaner Harry “Haeri” Kang’s Ahri developing an insurmountable lead that was instrumental in the final team fights that led to Liquid’s victory.
For Team Liquid, this win today is a major victory for the team as they now improve to 6-8 in what Haeri described as their “do or die week” in a postgame interview on the broadcast.
“I think this week was our do or die for sure and surprisingly, scrims were really good,” Haeri said in the postgame interview. “Even though our results weren’t that good, I think everyone’s still confident that we’re very good and that we can beat these top teams.”
This win will be a major boost to Team Liquid’s push towards a spot in the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs as they look to improve to 7-8 tomorrow in their match against CLG.
With this loss, FlyQuest has dropped down to an 11-3 record. While they still maintain their position at the top of the LCS 2023 Spring Split standings, they will now be looking at these final four games of the LCS 2023 Spring Split to secure their first-place seed in the playoffs.
They will look to break their two-game losing streak and aim for their 12th win of the LCS 2023 Spring Split against Immortals.
