At the beginning of the Leauge of Legends LCS 2023 Spring Split, expectations for the Golden Guardians were low. The Golden Guardians were 0-4 at the end of week two tied for last place in the LoL LCS 2023 Spring Split. Early on, it looked as if the hybrid Korean/North America lineup was a failed project. However, since then, the Golden Guardians have been crafting the beginning of what could be their very own “Golden Age” for the organization as they went into today’s game against Cloud9 on a five-game winning streak.

Still, if they wanted to truly prove this lineup's potential to win, they would need to take down a top team in the LCS, Cloud9. While Cloud9 entered the game with a new midlaner in Jang “EMENES” Min-soo, they were still viewed as the overall favorites going into this matchup due to their narrative of being one of the top League of Legends LCS teams in 2023.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - OCTOBER 09: Robert "Blaber" Huang of Cloud9 is seen backstage at the League of Legends World Championship Groups Stage on October 9, 2022 in New York City.

Cloud9 won the LCS 2022 Summer Split and continued to look strong in 2023.

As Cloud9 looked at today as an opportunity to watch EMENES win his first LCS game, Golden Guardians saw this as their moment to strike while the gold was hot. Immediately, Golden Guardians pushed the tempo throughout the game and got an early gold lead through a strong early game from jungler Kim “River” Dong-woo on Vi. This helped the rest of the team control the map as Cloud9 was unable to keep up with the Golden Guardians fast pace.

With the sixth win of 2023 in their sights, they ultimately put the finishing touches on their game against Cloud9 through one final team fight in the baron river as the Golden Guardians proved that they are not just fool’s gold.

With this win, Golden Guardians have improved their regular season record to 6-4 in the LoL LCS 2023 Spring Split and have put themselves within striking distance of a spot in the top three. Golden Guardians will now be put to the test as they take on the 9-1 FlyQuest. With six wins to their name, they will have an opportunity to catapult to seven wins.

After establishing themselves as the real deal, the Golden Guardians will now have an opportunity to catapult themselves to the top of the standings as they take on the 9-1 FlyQuest. That match will take place on Friday, Feb. 24 at 8pm ET.

As for Cloud9, this loss drops them down to 7-3 as their first game with EMENES was not the start they had hoped to have with their new midlaner. Regardless, they will have an opportunity to bounce back as they take on TSM tomorrow.
