Heading into this series, nobody was sure who would be coming out on top. CLG recently lost to Dignitas and was facing the pressure of possibly losing their ground on the LCS 2023 Spring playoff chase. Meanwhile, Evil Geniuses revealed that they would be without midlaner Joseph “Jojopyun” Pyun due to sickness and would play with Challengers midlaner Tommy”ry0ma” Le.

With both teams not at their best, they entered Summoner’s Rift, where it was evident that Evil Geniuses were still fine. They soared to an early game lead through stellar play from the Evil Geniuses botlane. Their strong early game helped Evil Geniuses balloon their gold lead to over 8k at the 34-minute mark. While CLG was able to stall the game out for a little bit longer, it was not enough to withstand Evil Geniuses' gold lead. Soon after, Evil Geniuses pushed into CLG’s base as they improved to 10-5 in the regular season.

Evil Geniuses are the third team qualified for the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs following their victory over CLG. While playoffs are technically not locked for Evil Geniuses just yet, both TSM and 100 Thieves will play one another next week, meaning that one of those teams will be unable to reach Evil Geniuses’ 10 wins on the season.

While a top-two finish is nearly out of reach for Evil Geniuses, the team will look to end their regular season strong as they take on Immortals, CLG, and Team Liquid to end their season. With FlyQuest and Cloud9 playing each other in the final week, a really strong week eight could propel Evil Geniuses to a second-place finish in the split.

Regardless, they have secured their spot in the LCS 2023 Spring Split as they now look towards postseason play.

As for CLG, this is the scenario they were looking to avoid as the team is now 7-8 going into their final week of the LCS 2023 Spring Split. They will now have an uphill battle to secure their spot in the playoffs as their schedule features Golden Guardians, Team Liquid, and Cloud9. That being said, this iteration of CLG truly counters logic. It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back from this 0-2 weekend.
