Cloud9 book their ticket to LCS finals weekend
Cloud9 is officially the second team locked in for LCS finals weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina following their victory over CLG in the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs.
The series overall went about how many would have expected this series to go. CLG put up a strong fight against the LCS frontrunners in Cloud9 across all four games in the series and even picked up a game win. That already was an improvement from yesterday's 3-0 series between FlyQuest and 100 Thieves. Unfortunately, a formidable fight was all that CLG could accomplish as Cloud9 was able to outmatch CLG's attempts at an underdog win.
Following the events of the second game, Cloud9 pulled things together in the mid-game for both game three and four before ultimately closing out the series in semi-dominant fashion.
With this victory, Cloud9 has set up a rematch with FlyQuest in the LCS 2023 Spring Split Upper Bracket Finals. Both teams will be fighting to be the first team in the Grand Finals in Raleigh, North Carolina, and a guaranteed spot at the LoL Midseason Invitational in London.
Cloud9's thoughts on the upcoming FlyQuest series
Cloud9's Robert "Blaber" Huang, Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen, and Ibrahim "Fudge" Allami spoke to LCS broadcast following the series against CLG. There, Cloud9 toplaner Fudge revealed a strategy involving Sion that they had been practicing with their academy team in preparation for today's series.
"We practiced a bunch of Sion lane swaps, playing with it and against it in scrims this week against our academy team, so nobody would know we were practicing it,” Fudge revealed when asked about the team’s creative macro plays.
The three spoke with jovial energy as they went into specifics about multiple topics. From talking about things like their preparation before today's game to funnier topics about Blaber "wanting to die" in-game after some misplays throughout the series, everything was lighthearted for Cloud9.
Eventually, the interview landed on the topic of FlyQuest where Cloud9 left LCS viewers with one simple answer to their thoughts on facing FlyQuest.
“Here's the thing, we have the better ADC," Zven bluntly stated. "So we obviously win.”
It will be quite a sight to see if Cloud9's stronghold over the LCS will continue to run rampant or if FlyQuest has finally made their triumphant return as the best LCS team at the perfect time. That series between Cloud9 and FlyQuest will take place next Thursday on Mar. 30.
As for CLG, their loss to Cloud9 sets them up against Evil Geniuses in the Lower Bracket. The CLG Faithful will now shift their focus to Sunday, Mar. 26 as they will be sending their support to CLG. It will be interesting to see if CLG can bounce back from today's loss against Cloud9 and improve upon their 5th-6th place finish in the LCS 2022 Summer Split.
