Mortal Kombat 1 is promising to be just as bloody and violent as previous iterations of the iconic fighting game but with a few new features. One newly announced feature that promises to change up the gameplay is the introduction of Kameo Fighters.

Taking place after Mortal Kombat 11’s in-game reset, Mortal Kombat 1 promises to have an intense storyline and even more intense action. The amount of bloodshed in the trailer is more than most games have in their entire campaign.

Along with the trailer came a few details related to various game modes and features including Kameo Fighters.

What Are Kameo Fighters in Mortal Kombat 1?

Mortal Kombat 1 already has an official FAQ that gives further insight into the action.

The Q&A reads: “Kameo Fighters are a unique roster of partner characters to assist during matches, creating expanded gameplay possibilities for players. These characters are chosen separately from the main roster of fighters.”

This is still a bit vague but it seems like there will be fighters that are not part of the main roster and instead exist in their own category. Players will possibly be able to select them before a match to provide assistance during battle.

It most likely won’t be a tag team situation where you can switch between two fighters, as in games like Marvel vs Capcom or the upcoming Project L. Instead, Kameo Fighters are expected to provide a special boost or ability at some point during battle. It’s unclear if this would be a limited mechanic or something players can utilize throughout matches.

Having a new mechanic to spice things up is always exciting. Fans were left wondering exactly how this could be implemented and what new combos and gameplay possibilities would be in store.

However, there are ways such a mechanic could go wrong in a series that has always focused on 1v1 gameplay. Since the Kameo Fighters are not part of the main roster, it's possible that some popular characters could end up being Kameo Fighters instead.

It’s currently unclear if the Kameo Fighters will overlap with the main roster or if characters in this category will not be playable in the traditional fashion.

Not much is known about Mortal Kombat 1 right now. All we have to go by currently is the short teaser trailer and the FAQ page. The page also states that there will be a Story Mode with a “brand new cinematic narrative” with “unexpected twists.” But so far, nothing more about the online and offline modes is known.

You should expect more information to come soon enough, however, since Mortal Kombat 1 is .said to be launching in September of this year.
