The State of Esports 14

MTN DEW Real Change Challenge Ultimate Game, BCX 2023, BLAST Rainbow 6 Major, and DreamHack Atlanta are all coming up in the last quarter of 2023.

Last week Atlanta played host to the $500,000 dollar prize pool - MTN DEW Real Change Challenge Ultimate Game. Last year we saw the Top HBCU players compete in Modern Warfare - this year, the gloves were off in Mortal Kombat 1 - the month-long competition all came to a head in person in the Skillshot Atrium with Morgan State University Senior Derek Deford taking home the top spot and 45,000 dollars.

Atlanta is host to even more competitions and events. Right in front of us is BCX, the Brawlhalla World Championship. It’s going to be held November 3rd, 4th, and 5th at Cobb Galleria Centre. This open tournament allows players to come to Atlanta and take a crack at the $250,000 prize pool. There will be competitions in 1s and 2s - tune in or come see it live.

GEL is getting into the BCX season with its own Brawlhalla competition: Fallhalla. GEL Schools have been invited to host their own local events as satellites - the top players will compete in a remote bracket on Nov 22, with the top 4 headed to Esports Summit on Dec 14th for the live finals. Students from the Georgia Film Academy Esports Broadcasting class will provide casting and production for the Nov 22 event and shoutcasters for the live finals.

Also coming to Atlanta - BLAST Rainbow 6 Major. This is the last Major of 2023 as the best R6 esports teams will be converging on Gas South Arena for a shot at $750,000 in prizing. The whole event takes 2 weeks with playins and playoffs having already begun - the finals will be open to the public from Nov 10-12. The event is age-restricted, so be sure to check out the details.

Girl Gamer Festival - the North American Tournament is one of many stops around the world for the Girl Gamer festival and will take place here - in Atlanta at the Skillshot Hub. Top competitors from US and Canada will compete in Rocket League during a week of esports and gaming events, including the previously mentioned Esports Summit Conference and DreamHack Atlanta. It’s going to be a great week for Georgia’s digital entertainment industry and esports at large.
