With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 fully announced, many fans are looking forward to the upcoming Call of Duty League season. Teams such as OpTic Texas, Toronto Ultra and the LA Thieves have already started to announce their rosters for the 2023 season. The London Royal Ravens had not announced their roster yet, and that’s because they’ve relocated for next season.

The Ravens Land in the Carolinas

In a tweet earlier today, the Royal Ravens said “We're thrilled to announce we're taking our royal wings to the Queen City, Charlotte, NC. The next chapter of the Royal Ravens will be fueled by the energy, culture, and resilience of the Carolinas. We want to thank all of our London fans. From hosting the very first CDL Major for you in 2020 to this very moment, your passion for our team and the games we've played are unrivaled. We will always be grateful for the four years we spent flying the flag for the UK and the support you gave us.”

Many fans are not happy with this decision, as it leaves Europe with no CDL teams at all. While the Heretics takeover of the Florida Mutineers leaves a connection to Spain, the team is still representing Miami.

This is the first time since the start of the Call of Duty League that Europe has seen no representation, going from two European teams in the first year, to now none.

It is unclear whether the Carolina Royal Ravens will continue to have links with the UK by resigning players such as Byron ‘Nastie’ Plumbridge, or if they will go in a completely different direction. However, with the same ownership, just a new brand name, we can expect to see the same conservative approach to building their team. Utilizing the best players they can find with affordable contracts.

We continue to get closer and closer to the launch of Modern Warfare 3. However, we have another big Call of Duty event coming next week in the World Series of Warzone finals at the Copperbox Arena in London.
